The inner part of the design shows a continuing ribbon that starts from the outside depicting the effigy of King Willem-Alexander and continues to depict the effigies of his six predecessors: Queen Beatrix, Queen Juliana, Queen Wilhelmina, King Willem III, King Willem II and King Willem I. The effigies are surrounded by the inscription ‘Willem-Alexander Koning der Nederlanden’ followed by the Royal Dutch mintmark, the mint master mark, the year 2013, the initials of the designer and at the left side of the effigies the inscription ‘200 jaar Koninkrijk der Nederlanden’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

The coin shows the silhouettes of the six former kings of the Netherlands and the current monarch, Willem-Alexander. The silhouettes are intertwined in chronological order from the inside to the outside and correspond to the images of the regents on previous coins. The line of vision, to the right or left, tends to alternate with each change of throne. The Royal Dutch Mint had the band that forms the outline of King Willem-Alexander coloured orange on 1500 examples produced as a "polished plate". Qua issue by the Netherlands they became legal tender. However, the EU legal technical specifications do not provide for the use of a colour imprint. There should not actually be coloured circulation coins, but the EU tolerates them, especially since they are produced in small quantities and are packed separately, so they are not really used as currency.
