The official farewell to the former Queen Beatrix

The inner part of the coin depicts the effigies of both the King Willem-Alexander and the former Queen Beatrix. At the left, in semi-circle, the inscription ‘WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN’ and at the right, in semi-circle, the inscription ‘BEATRIX PRINSES DER NEDERLANDEN’. Between the two inscriptions, at the top, the crown symbol and at the bottom the mint master mark, the mint mark and in between the year of issuance ‘2014’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

The second double portrait after the commemorative coin minted in 2013 to announce the change of throne shows King Willem-Alexander, this time in the foreground looking to the right, in front of his mother and predecessor Beatrix. The KNM has coloured the crown in red, white and blue on each of the 2000 pieces produced in the "Polished Plate" version and offered as a set. Since the Netherlands issued the coloured coins as legal tender. However, the EU legal technical specifications do not provide for the use of a coloured imprint. Therefore, coloured circulation coins should not really exist. However, they are tolerated by the EU, especially since they are only produced in small quantities, are packed separately and are therefore not used as legal tender.
