Additional information |
The commemorative coin minted at the Royal Dutch Mint shows the badge of the Maltese Police, consisting of a Maltese cross behind a white-red divided shield (the colour red is represented by hatching according to the heraldic rules of tingierung), similar to the shield in the coat of arms of Malta (but without the George Cross contained therein), a circularly depicted belt with buckle, a lily and the motto "DOMINE DIRIGE NOS" (lat. "God guide us"). The Police Force of Malta is the police force of the Republic of Malta with a current staff of about 1900 people and is responsible for public order and security on the main island and the islands of Gozo and Comino. It was founded - as one of the first police forces in Europe - on 12 July 1814 by Sir Thomas Maitland, Malta's first Governor from 1813 to 1824, called "King Tom". |
