The design depicts the overlapping portraits of Kings Felipe VI and Juan Carlos I. At the bottom the name of the issuing country and the year of issuance: ‘ESPAÑA — 2014’. At the right, the mint mark. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

Since 19 June 2014, Felipe VI of the House of Bourbon-Anjou has been King of Spain, succeeding his father Juan Carlos I, who abdicated. The coin shows a double portrait of the reigning king in the foreground and his predecessor in the background, slightly modified compared to the image in the Official Gazette.
