The coin’s theme centres on the concept of solidarity and peace. The design was created by a school student and depicts two children holding the Maltese flag with the dove of peace flying over them. At the bottom is the name of the issuing country ‘Malta’ and at the right side is the year of issuance ‘2017’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

The coin motif, designed by 12-year-old student Katya Muscat, shows - under a floating dove of peace - two small children holding the flag of Malta between them. In the upper left corner of the coin is the George Cross, which was awarded to the entire population of Malta for their courage and bravery during the Italian and German air raids in the Second World War. The right half of the flag is - following the heraldic rules of tingierung - represented by vertical hatching with the tincture red. This is the second coin in the five-part series "From children with solidarity".
