Additional information

Giotto di Bondone (1267-1337) was a Florentine painter and architect of the late Middle Ages, whose work, captivating in its naturalness and spatiality, was a pioneer of the Italian Renaissance. His main work is considered to be the fresco cycle in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, created between 1304 and 1306. As chief architect, he designed the bell tower of Florence Cathedral. In addition to the dates "1267" and "2017" and the name "GIOTTO", the coin shows the "Campanile di Giotto", the inscription "SAN MARINO" and a portrait of Giotto created by Paolo Uccello (1397-1475), now in the Louvre in Paris. Below is the "R" for the Roman mint and on the right the signet "LDS" of the coin designer.
