The bust of His Majesty King Juan Carlos I is pictured in the centre with, to the left, a semi-circle standing out in relief and bearing the word ESPAÑA; below this semi-circle is the mint mark. The design is encircled by the 12 stars of the European Union, four of which (those in the 1, 2, 3 and 4 o' clock positions) stand out in relief in a section of the circle. The year of minting again appears at the bottom of the coin, with the four digits separated into two groups by a central star.
