Carabiniers du Prince (‘Carabiniers’ of the Prince)

The design shows a CARABINIER and in the background the Palace of Monaco. At the top is the inscription ‘MONACO’ flanked by the mintmark and the mint master mark. At the bottom are the years ‘1817-2017’ and underneath the inscription ‘CARABINIERS DU PRINCE’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

Shown here are two members of the Princely Carabinier Company in front of the western façade and the main gate of the princely palace, designed by Marc-Antoine Grigho around 1678, where the Grimaldi family, an originally Genoese noble family, has resided since 1297. On the right, a restored tower with swallow-tail battlements, formerly part of the Genoese castle built in 1191.
