Additional information

Jacopo Robusti (1518-1594), was a painter of the Italian Renaissance and with his unusual perspectives of space and light a forerunner of the Baroque. His name Il Tintoretto ("the little dyer") is derived from his father's craft. The coin depicts the main motif of his painting "The Visitation of the Virgin Mary", created in 1588 for the Venetian brotherhood Scuola Gande di San Rocco, the encounter between the pregnant Mary and her relative Elizabeth, described in the Gospel according to Luke. Mary, crowned with roses at her hairline, bends down to Elizabeth, also wearing a halo, surrounded on the left by the leaves of a laurel tree and on the lower right by medlars.
