Additional information

On the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the Sistine Chapel, built between 1475 and 1483, the Vatican City minted a commemorative coin with a motif from the ceiling fresco of the Last Judgement with Mary and Jesus Christ, created by Michelangelo (1475-1564) around 1540. It depicts the Abrahamic religions' eschatological concept of a divine judgement that closes off world events and is closely linked to the idea of resurrection as the judgement of all the living and the dead.
