The 100th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Grand Duchess Charlotte

The design shows on the left hand the effigy of His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke Henri, and on the right hand the effigy of the Grand Duchess Charlotte. At the bottom is the name of the issuing country ‘LUXEMBOURG’ and underneath the year of issuance ‘2019’. At the top, in semi-circle around the effigies is the inscription ‘Centenaire de l’accession au trône de la Grande-Duchesse Charlotte’ (Centenary of the accession to the throne of Grand Duchess Charlotte). The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Additional information

The coin shows Grand Duke Henri in frontal view on the left, and his grandmother, Grand Duchess Charlotte (1896-1985) on the right, wearing the Nassau diadem made in 1865. She became Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and Duchess of Nassau after the abdication of her sister Maria-Adelheid in 1919 and married Felix of Bourbon-Parma in the same year. In 1964 she abdicated in favour of her son Jean. The issue occasion "Centenaire de l'accession au trône de la Grande-Duchesse Charlotte" (100th anniversary of Grand Duchess Charlotte's accession to the throne) is named above in French in the form of an arch.
