The design depicts a view of the Puerta de Sol and a detail of the ‘La Sinagoga del Tránsito’, both buildings built in the fourteenth century in Mudejar style. On the left hand and in capital letters the word ‘ESPAÑA’ and the year of minting ‘2021’. At the top on the right hand the mintmark. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Toledo is the capital of the Spanish province of Toledo and of the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha and is located 65 km southwest of Madrid on the Tagus River. The Puente de Alcántara bridge has served as the main access to the city since Roman times and was supplemented by the Puente de San Martín in the late Middle Ages. Toledo's old town with the Cathedral of Santa María and the Alcázar was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. The coin motif shows two buildings built in the second half of the 14th century in the Mudejar style: on the right, the Puerta del Sol (Sun Gate) city gate - in whose medallion above the archway, under a sun, the ordination of Archbishop Ildefons, considered the patron saint of Toledo, is depicted - and on the upper left, the wall above the gate shrine of the El Tránsito synagogue (today Museo Sefardí, a museum on the history of the Jews in Spain).
